Overview

The portal is an innovative web application that acts as a bridge connecting the client's legacy accounting solution with any third party alarm monitoring station. It enables seamless syncing of data between the apps, streamlines data entry and provides an auditing feature that saves time and money for alarm dealers.

The initial scope of the project was to make UI improvements to the current portal. However, based on the discovery workshops conducted with the clients and key stakeholders, the scope was re-defined. The final brief was to reimagine the application, design the product branding and foundational framework for all applications in the ecosystem for creating a consistent outlook across the suite of products by the client.
The key goals were to use this application to attract customers to the cloud accounting portal and establish the client as an industry leader, while ensuring an intuitive, modern user experience with a low learning curve.

Role

I worked as an interaction designer on this project. My responsibilities included;

Ideation- Partnered with Product Owners during insights finding, conducted discovery workshops and stakeholder interviews to understand product requirements & business goals. Applied a service design approach to map user journeys, identify pain points, and uncover business opportunities.

Design Execution & Validation- Restructured information architecture to enable intuitive navigation and simplified user flows. Designed wireframes and low-fidelity prototypes, validated key screens and flows through iterations by conducting A-B testing with stakeholders and users.​ 

 

Coordination- Collaborated with other designers and developers to deliver best possible user experience while ensuring on-time delivery of outcomes.

Leadership- Throughout the project lifecycle, presented design work to executives, senior stakeholders and other project teams, sometimes as demo and sometimes for showcasing the processes.​​​

Approach

A service design approach focussing on the relationships between users and systems was followed since the app is part of an ecosystem of applications with multiple hand-offs and interconnections. This ensured we created delight for various users in the ecosystem at every touch point right from awareness to customer support.​ The detailed understanding of users, customers, and stakeholders that would be using the platform helped create an appropriate solution that caters to all users' needs and business goals.The workflows were studied and seamless flow of information across applications were created to increase efficiency.

Most of the processes developed and followed for this project are now adopted as standard practices at UXG. ​

Solution Highlights
  • The application requires large data processing for the Admin (primary user). They deal with complex settings, cumbersome data-entry and responsibility of ensuring connection with Remote Monitoring Station. Redesign addressed these issues by connecting various application, importing information and auto filling to reduce duplication of effort and human error in manual data-entry.

  • The new design facilitates the ease of finding information and provides greater flexibility for assigning user permissions within the application based on the roles of the users.​

  • Customisable dashboards were introduced for showing the snapshots of the important information based on role of the user. This meant that the information was relevant and expedited the decision-making process. 

  • We also designed the brand identity for the application, which clearly articulates the vision and identity of the product. This branding framework and UX approach are foundational as this will be used in other applications part of the ecosystem, thereby creating consistent outlook across the suite of products.​

The design significantly enhanced the user experience and was highly praised by the client for its depth and detail. It has also earned multiple international accolades. View the award winning project case-study.​
